So Much For Putting Science Back in Its “Rightful Place”: Obama’s Presidential Assistant for Science Technology is an Alarmist Nutjob

July 21, 2009

Every time President Obama has anything to say about science as it pertains to policy, he’s flapping his gums about restoring science to its “rightful place”, which according to him, is whatever he says it is.  He’s spoken at length about scientific policy as though science can and should be wholly untethered from ideology; which, coincidentally, is how he portrays policy decisions he makes–as totally free of ideology.

So what, I wonder, does he think of this whackjob’s ramblings?

In a recently rediscovered 1977 book, “Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment,” co-authored with doomsters Paul and Anne Ehrlich, Holdren, who holds the post of presidential assistant for science technology, revealed his pessimistic and apocalyptic views on all three topics. They are disturbing.

He hates people and views them as the root of all planetary evils. Large families are a target of Holdren and the Ehrlichs, who write that they “contribute to general social deterioration by overproducing children” and “can be required by law to exercise reproductive responsibility.”

On page 837, Holdren writes “it has been concluded that compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution if the population crisis became sufficiently severe to endanger the society.”

Overproducing children? On the next page, Holdren asserts that “neither the Declaration of Independence nor the Constitution mentions a right to reproduce.” He missed that part about life being an inalienable right.

This rises above your run-of-the-mill liberal lunacy; this is enviro-statism of the most heinous kind.  It’s eugenics with an environmental/over population pretext.

As I’ve pointed out before, Malthus’s predictions of over-population producing mass starvation in 18th century England were wrong, and every Malthusian prediction of famine and pestilence since has failed to come to pass.  Still, enviro-nitwits like Holdren are like a cargo cult desperately praying for new goodies to fall from the sky, only less intelligent and completely bereft of compassion for their fellow man.

Puzzlingly, this joker escaped the rigorous vetting process that has kept the Obama administration free of corruption, tax cheats, and… oops!  Nevermind. Oddly, an ideologue made his way into an administration where ideology was supposed to take a back seat to science.

If the President is serious about affording an appropriate level of reverence to scientific objectivity, he ought to start by expelling blind ideologues who would enslave men, sterilize women, and murder babies in the name of “the planet”.
